What is blow-in insulation?
The term blow-in, blowing, and loose-fill insulation is used to describe the process of filling stud, joist, and attic floor cavities, with a loose material with a good R-value. While many materials can be used, fiberglass fibers, mineral wool, and cellulose are among the most popular materials for this application. Blow-in insulation is widely considered the optimal means of adding or retrofitting insulation in existing construction wall cavities and attic spaces. Cellulose Insulation
Constructed of treated cardboard, recycled newspaper, and other wood-based materials, blow-in cellulose is treated with boric acid and additional substances that make it flame and mold-resistant. Packaged in tightly packed bales, installation requires the use of a motorized blower/hopper that churns the cellulose with paddles to mix and loosen it with air, then blows the fluffy product through a hose to fill desired cavities.
